Background

This project represents one semester's work (approx. 5 months) in a Master's class in Creative Industries at Queensland University of Technology. The project brief was to make a virtual environment with purpose and utilising relevant theories. As a group of four we chose to leverage the educational value of computer games and produce work in that direction.

Story

Given that the project is only a prototype for a game it is suggestive of a story rather than exploratory. A person waking up to find that they are a hybrid angel/human, ex-warrior class, species whose bloodline goes back thousands of years is an interesting enough premise to start with. As one of the awoken you are trapped in between dimensions and must now face your first challenge: find replacement wings for the journey ahead.

Tools used

A snip of the theory behind it

Nephilim proposes to utilize three theories of presence, immersion and flow to create an interactive learning experience that fosters lateral and cognitive problem-solving within a virtual environment:

  1. The user's expectations of the game or environment must match the environment's conventions closely,
  2. The user's actions must have a non-trivial impact on the environment and,
  3. The conventions of the world must be consistent, even if they don't match those of reality.

Hints

Hint

It's a puzzle game but if you are really really stuck then highlight the following area to reveal some hints.

Puzzle #1

There is a sequence to the blocks.

Puzzle #2

There is no math involved. Think literally regarding the blood writing. If all else fails: trial and error...
