Blender and ATI don’t play well

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Things were interrupted today with Blender becoming bricked on my Vista machine. I’ve submitted a bug report (misnamed as initially I thought the crashing had to do with adding a subsurf modifier) and narrowed the issue down to once a certain amount of vertices are present (about 400) then it dies.

At this stage since I am just modelling it is not too bad to work on the macbook pro, but down the line the grunt behind the PC will be needed for rendering. Technology can be such a pain: I have to slipstream an XP install to get it to boot past “Verifying DMI pool” and then I was hoping to install Ubuntu Studio to make use of a 64bit version of Blender (currently on windows it is only 32bits). So much time is wasted faffing around with this stupid stuff. This is the reason one pays through the nose for Apple products – their “just work” quotient is much higher.
