The holes seem to get bigger

Given the importance of the preproduction stage, and the amount of time I have to do this project, I’m somewhat concerned that the major holes in my story seem to be getting bigger and fuzzier at the moment rather than clearer and cohesive. Looking through the Tool video clips was interesting but hasn’t seemed to help. I feel stuck in a box.

The parts that are troubling me are the two areas of conflict and their resolution. I had one thought that the boy could be consumed by a clock and has to work his way out; this idea seems to have promise. And I am still determined to have some sort of monster in the piece, and a treant (though I am less attached to that idea).

I liked the premises in this movie. It’s good to consider it in the canon of fairy/fantasy stories though at this stage I’m not sure how directly useful it is to the Mend Me project. I haven’t read the books yet but I have heard that they are darker than the movie.

So… what is it?

The project is to make a short 3D animated movie using Blender in the form of a music video clip. The track is an original cut of one of my songs, Mend Me. The greater goal (aside traversing the learning curve) is as a viral promotional tool for my music and the track itself. Currently the track itself requires a lot of work:
