I liked the premises in this movie. It’s good to consider it in the canon of fairy/fantasy stories though at this stage I’m not sure how directly useful it is to the Mend Me project. I haven’t read the books yet but I have heard that they are darker than the movie.
The loss of innocence paralleled with the loss of the demon – the enforced growing up is relevant to my project and the demon companion is a nice way to afford the characters with other abilities but at the same time make them vulnerable in an interesting way. This seems to keep an audience more affiliated with the characters.
Some of the script is lame but not unexpected and the plot seems to trundle along without much suspense. And the ending is somewhat annoying: may as well just put “to be continued” there.
“You wish to ride me” the big white bear says to the little girl…
